Help rebuild the Portland Mercado!

Hacienda CDC’s Portland Mercado was severely impacted by the fire that tore through our main building on January 3rd.  

Thanks to an incredible swell of community support, immediate funds were raised to support the small businesses that make up the Portland Mercado community and were impacted by the fire. Together, community members, businesses, and foundations donated $255,726.31 to directly support these businesses. The Portland Mercado Fire Relief Fund officially closed as of January 30th, 2024. 

Our next step is to rebuild this beloved community space that was lost to the fire. The rebuilding process will require time, planning, and resources and we are committed to bringing the Portland Mercado back to what it once was, if not better.

What happened? Is everyone okay? 

Firefighters responded to a fire at Hacienda’s Portland Mercado early in the morning of January 3rd, 2024. The fire started in one of the small businesses located in the Market Hall. Barrio, Xocotl, and the Market Hall sustained significant damage. There were no injuries. 

How long will businesses be closed? 

The Portland Mercado is currently being remodeled. We are expecting the reopening during Spring 2026. We will keep our community updated on its progress and the Grand Opening.

How will my donation be used? 

Donations to the Portland Mercado Rebuild Fund will be used to support the ongoing efforts to reconstruct the market hall and infrastructure that were lost to January 3rd’s fire.
